Donations and Support

Why Support Hospice?

Hospice of the Shenandoah provides expert end-of-life care to patients and families in Augusta County and surrounding areas. We provide care to these patients regardless of ability to pay.

Your contribution allows us to care for others in need in many different ways. These are needs that insurance does not cover.

  1. Assisting patients and their families with basic needs during a time when financial resources are strained, i.e. utilities, food, phone bills, extra medications.
  2. Provide bereavement services to children through the Camp Dragonfly grief camp at no charge to the campers.
  3. The Hospice advisory board provides grants to individuals who will be able to stay in an alternative living facility, Shenandoah House at Augusta Health, when they can no longer manage their care at home. This is one service that is not covered by traditional insurance policies and patients/families must either pay privately or qualify for a grant from the Hospice Advisory Board. The number of available grants is based on donations and memorials received from individuals, families, friends and area businesses.

Ways you can give

Memorial Tribute Gifts

At a person's death, families often request donations to Augusta Health Hospice in lieu of flowers or other recognition. These gifts honor the loved one's life while making a difference in the lives of other patients and families. The funeral home can help you make this request known.

When you make a gift to hospice in memory of a loved one, Augusta Health Hospice will send a card acknowledging the gift (the amount remains confidential) to the family of the deceased. A thank you note is also sent to the donor to acknowledge your tax-deductible donation.

Other memorial tribute gifts may be developed throughout the year.

Direct Gifts

Donations by individuals, clubs, organizations and industries are an important way that the Augusta Health Hospice can benefit patients and families in many ways. Your tax-deductible donations can be sent to:

Augusta Health
Hospice of the Shenandoah
PO Box 215
Fishersville, VA 22939

There are opportunities to donate items other than money as well. Some of those donations might include stock donations or real estate. The Hospice House will have many opportunities for "special donations" such as flowers, patio gardens, and furniture. If you have questions about "special giving," please contact us.

Planned Legacy Gifts

Individuals may make gifts to hospice as part of their will. Hospice of the Shenandoah is part of the not-for-profit Augusta Health and all donations are tax deductible. Talk with your lawyer about this special opportunity.

The Brick Paver Program will provide an enduring display of remembrance. The pavers can be purchased by individuals, families, or businesses to memorialize a lost loved one; honor a special someone; or to show your support of hospice. Each 4” x 8” paver is $250 and can be personalized with up to 3 lines of engraving. They will be placed along the pathways throughout the garden areas.

The Gifted Care Fund has been established to help pay expenses for patients who need financial assistance. According to governmental regulations, most hospice house stays are considered "residential care" and are not covered by Medicare, Medicaid, or general health insurance plans. We are committed to providing safe and loving end-of-life care to people in our community regardless of their ability to pay.
