Medical Programming
We offer several monitored medical exercise and educational programs for individuals who want to exercise but have special needs, chronic conditions or physical limitations! These may include but are not limited to individuals with chronic illnesses such as stable cardiovascular disease, stroke, diabetes, severe obesity, pulmonary disease and/or orthopedic limitations. The program is also available to those who have been recently discharged from outpatient physical therapy, outpatient cardiac rehab or other disciplines within Augusta Health or surrounding areas. These programs are designed to educate the participants while teaching self-monitoring skills and moving them towards independent exercise.

Transition Programs
Once discharged from therapy, give yourself the gift of fitness by joining Augusta Health Lifetime Fitness. Our Exercise Physiologist will meet with you to help you formulate fitness goals. You may enter our Medical Programming or begin your own workout program. Our Fitness Floor staff will provide a full equipment orientation and answer your questions. Transition Programs are available in one-, two-, or three-month memberships. Contact a Membership Services Representative at 540-332-5843 for more details.
Fitness Rx Programs
Four Weeks to Independence - Water or Land

A personal exercise program created by our Exercise Physiologist with the assistance of your therapist, designed to help you continue achieving your function and fitness goals on land or in the water. Four sessions with our Exercise Physiologist guide you through the first four weeks of your membership at Lifetime.

A one-on-one supervised exercise program if you have medical conditions or were recently discharged from physical therapy but are not able to exercise on your own. Sessions up to 60 minutes focus on exercises, skills and movements on land or in the water.
Session times are scheduled with staff. You're limited to a maximum of eight sessions unless approved by Exercise Physiologist.
Specialty Classes for Individuals with Chronic Ailments
Lifetime Fitness offers several specialty group classes and educational programs for individuals who want a low impact, exercise but have special needs or chronic conditions. These may include but are not limited to individuals with chronic illnesses such as Arthritis, Diabetes, Fibromyalgia, Cancer, Multiple Sclerosis and more. These classes are also available to those who have been recently discharged from Therapy, or other disciplines within Augusta Health and surrounding areas. These programs are designed to educate the participants while assisting to tackle the disturbances in our body and to enable greater self-awareness.

Tai Chi for Arthritis
Gentle movements reduce pain and stiffness, improve muscle strength and joint flexibility, promote tranquility and uplift your spirits. Provides a safe and interesting program that can be learned by almost anyone without prior knowledge of Tai Chi.
Tai Chi for Diabetes
Minimize your risk of complications by improving your heart/lung function, muscular strength, flexibility and balance. Sessions include warm-up, wind-down, Qigong exercises, special precautions and a set of 19-movement Sun and Yang-style Tai Chi.
Multiple Sclerosis Aqua
Improve your stretch and range of motion, upper and lower body strength, endurance, and balance. Includes warm-up and cool-down. No swimming required.
Range of Motion Aqua
Gain greater flexibility and range of motion to overcome arthritis, body aches and pains. No swimming required.
Thai Chi for Cancer Recovery
Tai Chi movements are gentle, graceful, fluid, circular motions that are slow in tempo designed to exercise the body, mind and spirit. You also learn how to use abdominal breathing and learn how to relax. All of these factors help control weight, improve posture and reduce stress. This class is sponsored by the Augusta Health Cancer Center and open to all Cancer Recovery patients to attend, member or non-member, FREE OF CHARGE. If you are new, please check in at the front desk to fill out a guest waiver.

8 Week Exercise Program
An eight-week exercise program for children ages 9-14. Includes two organized exercise sessions with our Exercise Specialists each week. It also offers two nutritional sessions that parents are encouraged to attend. It's a relaxed environment where children build their self-esteem while learning that exercise and healthy eating are fun!

6 Sessions of Success Land or Water

One on one supervised medical youth program, for children 6 - 13 years old who may be overweight, have a metabolic, orthopedic concern or a chronic ailment. Participants work one on one with Lifetime Fitness staff to move through exercises to improve their condition. Activities vary depending on land or water program. Exercises include strength, cardiovascular, functional training and more. Scheduled with Exercise Physiologist.
All youth programs require a clearance from the pediatrician.
