Augusta Health Main Laboratory Accredited by College of American Pathologists

Tuesday, July 24, 2012

Augusta Health's Main Laboratory in Fishersville has been re-accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) after an on-site inspection.

During the accreditation process, inspectors examined the laboratory's records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. They also examined laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall management. The federal government recognizes the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program as being equal to, or more stringent than, its own inspection program.

At the same time, Augusta Health has met all criteria for Laboratory Accreditation by COLA, a national, nonprofit, physician-directed healthcare accreditation organization. COLA accreditation is given to laboratories that apply rigid standards of quality in day-to-day operations, demonstrate continued accuracy in performance of proficiency testing, and pass a rigorous on-site laboratory survey.
