The Augusta Health Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders takes comprehensive oncology services to a higher standard. Not only can you depend on a wide range of treatment and support services that have been a part of our cancer program for years but also the added benefit of local Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology providers. Our Cancer Specialists practice at Augusta Health, Monday through Friday, and in Lexington on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month. As members of our local community, they focus on creating a healthier, cancer-free community.
Message from our Medical Director
Medical Oncologists & Hematologists
Medical Oncologists provide a full spectrum of preventive, diagnostic, therapeutic, and rehabilitative services required for the care of cancer patients. A hematologist is a medical doctor who applies a specialized knowledge to treat patients with blood conditions.
Radiation Oncologists
Radiation Oncologists are doctors specializing in the use of radiation to treat cancers. Radiation Therapy is the use of various forms of penetrating energy (radiation) to safely and effectively destroy cancer cells.
Navigators
Any cancer treatment path can be a confusing, overwhelming and complicated maze. The patient has many providers and may deal with many departments within the hospital—a disease specialist, a radiation oncologist, a medical oncologist, a surgeon, a pathologist, a pharmacist, a dietitian, and a therapist. Many of the issues faced are difficult, and many of the decisions that need to be made require the understanding of medical process and jargon.
A Navigator is a single, dedicated person to be the point-of-contact through the entire course. Patients have the same navigator by their side, coordinating care from the time of diagnosis through treatment and recovery and onto survivorship.

Social Work
Our Social Workers recognize the multiple, complex needs of cancer patients, which often have social, emotional and financial aspects. Our services are available to spouses, children, siblings, parents, and significant others whose lives may also be affected by the patient's cancer diagnosis and treatment.
We have a full-time social worker to meet with patients and other individuals as needs are identified along the continuum of care. An on-call social worker is available evenings and weekends.
