American College of Surgeons' Commission on Cancer (CoC) Accreditation
Based on the outstanding program, Augusta Health receives full Cancer Accreditation from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer, a status we have maintained since 1994. In 2009, we also received Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Program recognition, based on our growth in volumes.
The Augusta Health Breast Health Program is the first hospital in the region to receive full accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC). Accreditation is granted only to those centers that undergo a rigorous evaluation and review of performance and compliance with 27 evidence-based standards of care covering 17 components of care. The next closest accredited programs are in Winchester and Richmond.
NAPBC accreditation is awarded to centers who take a multidisciplinary, team-oriented approach to breast cancer care, and the Augusta Health cancer program is honored to have received this accreditation. Instead of providing fragmented care, Augusta Health creates a customized plan for each patient, which creates a symbiotic process for treatment.
The NAPBC is a national coalition of professional healthcare organizations dedicated to the highest quality of care for women and men diagnosed with diseases of the breast. The NAPBC promotes a holistic approach to treatment for patients, and provides a framework for a continuum of care that meets the needs of the whole person and not just the disease. The program is administered by the American College of Surgeons. Visit the NAPBC website to learn more.

The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs are assessed.
