Generosity in Action
Gifts from generous individuals, corporations, foundations and organizations enhance patient care services at Augusta Health. Here are some of the ways that giving to the Augusta Health Foundation makes a difference in the lives of patients, employees and their families.
Augusta Health Patient Care Fund
This special fund has only been in existence since 2014, but has already made a significant difference in the lives of patients at Augusta Health. More than $110,000 has provided for a new Breastfeeding Education program in our Obstetrics Unit, technology for the new Deaf & Hard of Hearing program, chronic disease management home assistance program, and ongoing support for the Living with Diabetes program.
Nearly 1,000 residents of our region are treated each year at the Augusta Health Cancer Center, a Duke Medicine affiliate. The Foundation provides ongoing support for new patient education materials and hands-on equipment, a new Healing Arts Program, and emergency support for patients in treatment who have transportation needs or cannot afford medications or prosthetics, through the Cancer Center Bridge Fund.
Hospice of the Shenandoah
For decades, our community has used the services of Hospice of the Shenandoah for end-of-life care. Grateful family members and community members generously provide ongoing philanthropic support for critical programs like our Gifted Care Program, so that no one is denied hospice care because of their inability to pay. Gifted Care is 100% funded by the generous gifts to the Augusta Health Foundation.
Augusta Health nurses who want to enhance their skills at the bedside or in a provider setting have the opportunity to expand their education and professional development through the Nursing Excellence funds at the Augusta Health Foundation.
