Expanded Diabetes Care & Prevention Programs for Our Community
One of the top three health concerns in the Staunton, Augusta County and Waynesboro communities (SAW) is the prevalence of diabetes. Augusta Health's 2016 Community Health Needs Assessment notes that 13.9% of the SAW population reported that they have diabetes, which is higher than the state average of 9.7%. Another 5.7% of community residents reported that they have been diagnosed with pre-diabetes.
To address this growing health concern, Augusta Health formed a Diabetes Taskforce aimed at developing proactive prevention and proven management programs in the SAW communities. These programs include an enhanced inpatient program that provides one-on-one support, counseling and instruction for patients who need to better manage their diabetes, and new diabetes management and prevention initiatives throughout SAW to expand access to care.
Proceeds from the Rustic Roots event will provide support for the expansion of these critical programs and initiatives in the SAW community.
