On October 24, 2017, four nurses from the Inpatient Surgical Unit were presented with the DAISY Award: Laura Shifflett, Emylee Protil, Christian Darragh, and Beth Hall. All four were involved in the care of one patient who, along with his family, called them "The Dream Team."

Emylee Protil is the star of the Dream Team. Emylee's assessment skills and urgency in alerting the on-call surgeon enabled the patient to receive emergent surgery. Additionally, Emylee's happy, friendly, and caring personality made her a favorite of the patient and his family. She made them comfortable with her words, tone of voice and kindness.

Christian Darragh's calm demeanor and ability to work with his patients earned him a spot on the Dream Team. He used his sense of humor to put the patient at ease while remaining professional. He also took the time to explain treatments and medications as well as assessing how the patient felt afterwards.

Laura Shifflett is funny, outgoing, caring, and easy to work with. She was able to anticipate concerns without making the patient feel as if he was a bother. Laura's energetic, lighthearted personality lightened the mood during a very serious time.

Beth Hall had the ability to connect with the patient. She was also a strong patient advocate and provided tremendous support for the patient and family. Beth talks to and works with her patients, making sure they know she is on their team.

DAISY Award honorees personify Augusta Health's remarkable patient experience. These registered nurses consistently demonstrate excellence through their clinical expertise and extraordinary compassionate care, and they are recognized as outstanding role models in our nursing community.
