Enhanced Access Initiative Focusing on Community Access to Healthcare

Wednesday, September 9, 2020

Augusta Health is pleased to announce plans for a dedicated outpatient pavilion on its Fishersville campus with groundbreaking scheduled for Wednesday, September 16, at 12:00 PM. Slated to open in late 2022, this event marks the next phase of a Board approved Enhanced Access Initiative, as part of the Journey 2025 strategic plan, designed to expand and improve access to quality healthcare inclusive of both new and existing services.

"As we look to the future and Augusta Health's responsibility to provide advanced care in the region, our focus is to expand access to healthcare in the community," says Mary N. Mannix, FACHE, President and CEO of Augusta Health.

"We are launching this strategic investment to improve the region's access to the best outpatient care available, and to meet the growing demand for state-of-the-art outpatient services both locally and nationally. We anticipate these plans will impact more than 100,000 patients every year with specialized and personal outpatient care."

The 60,000 square foot campus pavilion will be funded from Augusta Health reserves and philanthropic contributions, providing state-of-the-art accommodations for outpatient surgery, a low-cost freestanding imaging center, and breast care services designed with a keen focus on early detection and prevention of cancer. The Pavilion will also feature nearby parking, efficient registration, comfortable waiting areas with retail conveniences; and a WiFi accessible café with modern amenities in a park-like setting for families and visitors. Facilities will also include private and enclosed pre- op and recovery bays, reduced surgery scheduling delays, and reduced length of stay for procedures.

According to Mark LaRosa, Vice President of Business Development and Chief Strategy Officer, "Augusta Health's initial outpatient expansion plans will continue in the coming months and years to provide increased access to excellent care for patients throughout the Valley and surrounding communities." The new outpatient Pavilion is just one of many new initiatives set to serve the community. The commitment to expanding access to healthcare in the community also includes: Primary Care Services in Buena Vista and Glasgow, expanded Diabetes and Behavioral Health Services in Fishersville, and the expansion of the Augusta Health Weyers Cave Urgent Care Center. The Enhanced Access plan also expands upon the current virtual health platforms at Augusta Health by offering more options for afterhours care and on-site visits.

"This inclusive initiative builds upon a rich history focused on delivering a robust offering of quality clinical services," adds Mannix. "Over the years we expanded various services lines, including our Heart and Vascular Center, Joint

Replacement Center, and our Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders. We've also added specialization in Electrophysiology, Thoracic Surgery, and Neurosurgery, and continued advanced care capabilities with robotic surgery and other emerging technologies."

The community-focused Board of Augusta Health collaborated with the staff and physicians on this important initiative for improving access to quality healthcare throughout the community. Board Chair, Laurie Landes, shares that

"Healthcare is changing constantly, but we know it needs to become more personalized, focused on chronic diseases, and accessible." Together, these strategic initiatives in the Journey 2025 strategic plan are drivers to becoming a national model for a community-based health system.
