  • Why did you choose your specialty area?

After many years of college teaching with a multicultural focus, I changed careers in what was a natural progression toward blending the wisdom of literature and philosophy with the challenge of helping people navigate life's ups and downs. Dialectical Behavior Therapy is the counseling modality that I find works for people across all races, classes, cultures and gender identities. DBT therapy teaches the core skills of mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation and interpersonal skills.

  • How do you spend your spare time?

I enjoy reading and writing, hanging out with friends, hiking, kayaking, and bike riding. My family and I vacation in Mid-Coast Maine every summer. I am married and have 2 grown children. Since we became empty nesters, my husband and I spend our evenings with a very silly dog and two cats.

  • #1 health tip that you can offer:

Breathe. Meditation and prayer offer a special kind of pause, a quiet that stops time and brings clarity to life's daily problems, reminding us that we are all connected.
