  • Why did you choose your specialty area?

After many years of working in the fields of Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders, I was introduced to Dialectal Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and I quickly became excited about this highly researched, highly effective therapy that incorporates many techniques that I had been using for years. Now it is my passion to help clients learn and use skills that can help them address all aspects of their lives.

  • How do you spend your spare time?

I am very involved with my growing family. We enjoy staying in touch and finding opportunities to be together. I sing in a wonderful choir and I have a rich spiritual life. I love to read and write and I can frequently be found on a hike in warmer months. Every once in a while I hike up to Humpback Rocks with my husband just to remind myself that I can still do it! I love art and I am always up for a museum visit.

  • #1 health tip that you can offer:

Breathe. Simple breathing skills can help with anxiety, irritability, frustration, and a host of others ills. Breathe deeply in for four seconds. Hold for 4 seconds. Breathe out for four seconds. Repeat. If you want you can breathe in a word like "peace" or "calm" and breathe out "tension" and "anxiety". The brain hears what we tell it and if you are telling your brain that you are releasing tension and anger it will believe you. If the tension comes back you can do it again.
