Why did you choose your specialty area?
I chose gastroenterology because it is the perfect balance between getting to know my patients and also becoming skilled in endoscopic procedures. I am also passionate about cancer prevention and women's health, and realize that it is important for women to have access to female GI physicians to feel comfortable discussing sensitive issues of the gut.
How do you spend your spare time?
I enjoy spending time with my husband and 2 young children, traveling to other countries, exploring culture, art, and cuisine in Washington, Charlottesville, & Richmond, and wine tasting in Virginia wine country.
#1 Health tip that you can offer:
The key to a happy belly is healthy eating, exercising, getting enough sleep, finding ways to relax, nurturing positive relationships, and cultivating good gut bacteria (called the gut microbiome).
