Meet Our Chaplains

Rev. Dr. Chris Mason

Chris serves as our Chaplaincy Program Coordinator, providing guidance over the various aspects of spiritual care at Augusta Health. Chris began with Augusta Health in January 2020. He came to Augusta Health after serving eight plus years as the Staff Chaplain working primarily with Palliative Care and Intensive Care at the OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. Chris also served as a Staff Chaplain and Clinical Educator with the Indiana University Hospital System in Indianapolis, Indiana and as a Chaplain Resident at the Research Medical Center in Kansas City Missouri. Prior to entering clinical chaplaincy, Chris was a Senior Pastor in the parish for more than fifteen years. He is ordained and endorsed as a Chaplain by the Alliance of Baptist. Chris received the Bachelor of Arts Degree from the Baptist College of Florida in Graceville, Florida. He received the Master of Divinity Degree from the New Orleans Seminary in New Orleans, Louisiana. He received the Doctor of Ministry Degree in Counseling (focusing on identity-based resiliency) from the Louisville Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. Chris also earned and received twelve units of Clinical Pastoral Education from Research Medical Center and the Indiana University Health System Education/CPE in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Rev. David Cunningham

Dave serves as one of our Weekend Chaplains, answering emergency spiritual care needs for patients, families, and staff. In addition to serving as part of the staff since July 2020, he has served faithfully as an Augusta Health Volunteer Chaplain since late 2009. He is ordained as a Minister of the Gospel in the Pentecostal Church as a member of Oak Grove Restoration Ministries. He earned a Certificate in Religious Studies and Certificate in Pastoral Care from the Evans-Smith Leadership Institute Samuel Dewitt School of Theology Virginia Union University and has two units of CPE from Eastern Mennonite Seminary.

Rev. Gabe Moya

Gabe serves as another of our Weekend Chaplains meeting emergency spiritual care needs over the weekend. Gabe is new to Augusta Health, starting with us in July 2020. He is licensed and ordained with the Assemblies of God church and currently is the Pastor of Congregational Care at City Church in Charlottesville, where he has served in that position since 2014. Gabe received the Bachelor of Arts Degree from Northwest University in Kirkland, Washington. He received his Master of Divinity Degree from Sioux Falls Seminary in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He also has earned and received seven units of Clinical Pastoral Education from the University of Virginia Graduate Medical Education/CPE in Charlottesville.
