Split Second Precision Leads to Care within Minutes
Cardiac care for heart attack patients coming to Augusta Health now begins before they arrive at our doors. Communication between hospitals and EMTs—including EKGs—begins while the ambulance is still on its way. The Cath Team then meets the patient at the doors and immediately starts prep for the catheterization and stent procedure.
In the case of Allan Stuhlmiller, this meant he was greeted, prepped, catheterized and stented (two stents end to end) within 9 minutes of arrival at Augusta Health. The national standard is 90 minutes. His care, from Emergency Department through Cath Lab and Cardiac ICU was appreciated by his family.
His wife, Patty, wrote, "Al has not suffered damage to his heart and is working to lose weight and manage his blood pressure with medication. We are grateful to your hospital and staff for their professionalism and dedication to the wellbeing of their patients. Thank you."
