Working Together for Patient Safety
Clinical projects often impact the whole organization, so can never be done in a silo–in order to have the perspective of the whole organization, they require involvement and coordination that crosses lines and boundaries.
Recently, the Pump Implementation Team–which drew from the experiences of many–worked together for months on their project. Led by key clinician Susan Fiorre-Winters and meeting every two weeks, they built a library of information on all drugs and medications used at Augusta Health and implemented a massive effort to educate staff. Their efforts did not focus on an individual department's needs, but on the goal of improving patient safety.
As a wise person once said, it's amazing how much you can accomplish when it doesn't matter who gets the credit.
