3D Mammography (Tomosynthesis)
A 3D mammogram is similar to a 2D mammogram. The main benefit of a 3D mammogram is that it creates a layered image that allows for more detail to be seen by the radiologist.
The improved images from these mammograms may reduce the need for callbacks and will make breast cancers easier to see in dense breast tissue.
Augusta Health started performing 3D mammograms (Breast Tomosynthesis) in July 2014.
