Augusta Health Celebrates Launch of Mobile Medical Unit with Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

FISHERSVILLE, VIRGINIA— Augusta Health held a special ribbon-cutting ceremony yesterday to officially launch its new Mobile Medical Unit, a state-of-the-art initiative designed to bring essential primary care services directly to individuals and communities facing barriers to healthcare access. The event, held on the lawn between the hospital’s Main Entrance and Heart & Vascular Center, welcomed Augusta Health leadership, care team members, community partners, and supporters for a firsthand look at the new mobile unit and its mission.

“This initiative is a powerful example of what it means to meet people where they are,” said Isaac Izzillo, Director of Augusta Health Public and Primary Care Services. “Whether someone is unhoused, homebound, or without reliable transportation, this Mobile Medical Unit ensures they don’t have to go without the care they need.”

Generous community donors committed $600,000 to Augusta Health Foundation to purchase the new mobile medical unit. Launched in April 2024, the campaign was galvanized by leadership gifts from Houff Charitable Foundation, Cabell Foundation, Community Foundation of Central Blue Ridge – High Impact Grant Initiative, and Augusta Health Foundation’s Women’s Giving Circle and fueled by strong partnerships with local donors, volunteers, and medical staff. Fully equipped and staffed by experienced clinical professionals, the unit will serve as a flexible extension of Augusta Health’s care network, providing wellness visits, chronic disease management, and screenings in neighborhoods across the region.

Guests at the ribbon cutting had the opportunity to tour the Mobile Medical Unit and speak with the dedicated team bringing this vision to life. Attendees also learned about the long-term goals of the program and its role in Augusta Health’s broader commitment to health equity, compassion, and community outreach. As the unit begins its first rounds of service in the coming weeks, Augusta Health remains focused on a simple but critical mission: ensuring that everyone has access to the healthcare they deserve, regardless of their circumstances.
