FISHERSVILLE, VIRGINIA—Augusta Health proudly marked a significant milestone at a recognition event on June 19, celebrating the hospital’s achievement of 13 distinctions from Healthgrades, which include distinctions placing it among America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Orthopedic Surgery and Joint Replacement.

During the event, Mary N. Mannix, FACHE, President & CEO of Augusta Health, delivered remarks highlighting the unwavering dedication and outstanding performance of the orthopedic, surgical, and spine teams. “To be recognized among America’s Best Hospitals is a tremendous honor, and to receive 13 awards in a single year, featuring our orthopedic service line, is truly exceptional,” said Mannix. “This recognition reflects the unique dedication, skill, and compassion of the orthopedic physicians at Shenandoah Valley Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, the nurses, and the host of support staff that work together to make a team. It also affirms our strong and growing reputation across the Shenandoah Valley and beyond.”

Notable distinctions awarded to Augusta Health by Healthgrades include:

  • America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Orthopedic Surgery™ (2025)
  • America’s 50 Best Hospitals for Outpatient Orthopedic Surgery™ (2025)
  • America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Joint Replacement™ (2024–2025)
  • America’s 50 Best Hospitals for Surgical Care™ (2024–2025)
  • Top 5 in Virginia for Orthopedic Surgery; Top 5 in Virgina for Surgical Care
  • Multiple Five-Star Distinctions in Hip Fracture, Knee and Hip Replacement, and Spine Procedures

Katharine Mongoven, MBA, CPHQ, Senior Director of Quality Solutions at Healthgrades, emphasized the significance of these awards, which are based solely on patient outcomes and clinical data reported to Medicare. Patients have significantly better outcomes at high-performing hospitals. Between 2021 and 2023, if all hospitals had matched the performance of 5-star hospitals, an estimated 225,000 lives could have been saved and 141,000 complications avoided1. “Healthgrades ratings are not influenced by reputation or finances—they are rooted in data, measuring what matters most: complications and mortality,” said Mongoven. “Augusta Health’s achievements reflect a prevailing attitude of excellence. Your patients experience fewer complications and better results because of the quality of your clinical teams.”

Augusta Health’s ongoing investment in technology and innovation was highlighted. Recent additions include the ROSA robotic system for knee replacements, a new MRI system, and the expansion of the Outpatient Surgery Center, all of which support Augusta Health’s commitment to delivering precise, minimally invasive, and high-quality care. The event also acknowledged Augusta Health’s growing capabilities with the upcoming addition of Shenandoah Valley Orthopedics and Sports Medicine to its medical group later this summer, further enhancing the Center for Orthopedic Medicine.
