FISHERSVILLE, VIRGINIA — Augusta Health has finalized its acquisition of Harrisonburg Family Practice, an established seven-physician primary care practice that has served the Harrisonburg community for 50 years. The acquisition strengthens Augusta Health’s primary care presence in Harrisonburg and builds on its commitment to serving patients throughout the region.
Founded under the leadership of Drs. George Weidig and David Whitehead, Harrisonburg Family Practice provides comprehensive family medicine for patients of all ages, along with laboratory services, women’s health care, in-office procedures, and Saturday office hours. Located at 1831 Reservoir Street in Harrisonburg, the practice has built lasting relationships with generations of patients and families.
“We are pleased to welcome Harrisonburg Family Practice to Augusta Health,” said Kris Doan, MBA, FACHE, senior vice president of Augusta Health and president of Augusta Medical Group. “The practice has a long history of providing trusted, patient-centered care in the Harrisonburg community. We look forward to building on that legacy and creating more opportunities to connect patients and families with the care and services they need.”
The practice will continue operating under its current name and at its current location during the transition period. Patients can continue seeing their current physicians and care team at the same location and phone number. The target timeline for integration into Augusta Medical Group is June 2027. Augusta Health’s immediate priority is to ensure continuity of care for patients and support a smooth transition for the practice’s physicians and staff.
“We are excited about this next chapter and the opportunities it brings for our practice and the patients we serve,” said J. Michael Syptak, MD, a physician at Harrisonburg Family Practice since 1999. “Our commitment to providing compassionate, high-quality care remains at the heart of everything we do. This partnership will allow us to build on that strong foundation while continuing to meet the evolving needs of our community. We look forward to all that we can accomplish together.”
Once the transition is complete, Harrisonburg Family Practice will be further connected to Augusta Health’s network of primary and specialty care services and resources. The acquisition supports Augusta Health’s mission to strengthen the health and well-being of all people in our communities while building on the trusted care Harrisonburg Family Practice has provided for 50 years.
