Nurse Navigation

Any cancer treatment path can be a confusing, overwhelming and complicated maze. The patient has many providers and may deal with many departments within the hospital—a disease specialist, a radiation oncologist, a medical oncologist, a surgeon, a pathologist, a pharmacist, a dietitian, and a therapist. Many of the issues faced are difficult, and many of the decisions that need to be made require the understanding of medical process and jargon.

A Navigator is a single, dedicated person to be the point-of-contact through the entire course. Patients have the same navigator by their side, coordinating care from the time of diagnosis through treatment and recovery and onto survivorship.

Social Work

Our Social Workers recognize the multiple, complex needs of cancer patients, which often have social, emotional and financial aspects. Our services are available to spouses, children, siblings, parents, and significant others whose lives may also be affected by the patient’s cancer diagnosis and treatment.

We have a full-time social worker to meet with patients and other individuals as needs are identified along the continuum of care. An on-call social worker is available evenings and weekends.

Nutritional Counseling

Food FARMacy

Food FARMacy is a 16-week program in which participants with chronic diseases receive nutrition education, healthy food demo samples, nutritious recipes, and farm-fresh seasonal vegetables.

To date, 12 cohorts have been completed, and over 140 patients have been served. Additionally, over 21,000 pounds of produce has been distributed through this program.

Augusta Health Food Pantry

The Augusta Health Food Pantry was established in April of 2021, and focuses on equitable access to nutritious food for patients that have screened positive for food insecurity.

Palliative Care

Palliative care is specialized medical care for people with serious illnesses, no matter their age or stage of illness. Our Palliative Care team is focused on providing patients with relief from the symptoms, pain, and stress of their condition–whatever the diagnosis. Transitional care supports patients as their care needs evolve, helping them make decisions about next steps and easing the transition to different types of care.
