Meet Dr. Nelly Maybee
After five years as a physician in the Augusta Health diabetes and endocrinology clinic, Dr. Nelly Maybee is pleased that she can not only name her regular patients, but that she can also easily recall personal details about each of them.
"We are fortunate to have time to build relationships with our patients," said Dr. Maybee, citing the one-on-one interaction that recently earned her practice the highest patient satisfaction rating among Augusta Medical Group (AMG) members. "That commitment to personal treatment leads patients to be honest with us. They don't feel like we keep our hand on the door when we're meeting with them."
Dr. Maybee credits AMG — which boasts nearly 70 medical professionals who specialize in a variety of fields — with improving the overall patient experience. By encouraging fluid communication with other members, sharing an electronic records database with patient histories, and meeting regularly to address issues, the group increases efficiency and gives patients access to the best possible care.
A graduate of the University of Maryland who completed her internal medicine residency and fellowship at the University of Virginia, Dr. Maybee describes endocrinology as "a primary care practice within a specialty." She enjoys the opportunity to evaluate the whole patient, while focusing her care on the endocrine system. About half of the individuals seen at the Augusta Health center are diabetics, and the remaining patients have conditions that range from thyroid dysfunction to pituitary abnormalities to osteoporosis, Maybee said.
"Even I am surprised when I look at the breadth of patients we treat," she said.
