What to Expect

Prior to your procedure your anesthesiologist will discuss with you matters that are important for your anesthetic and surgery. He will take into consideration prior surgeries and anesthetics, review your medical history, do a very brief physical exam and discuss the anesthetic you will receive. This is an excellent time for you to mention concerns that you have about the surgery or the anesthesia.

Your anesthesiologist will tailor the anesthetic to the procedure and your particular medical issues. She will accommodate patient preferences when possible. However, depending on preexisting medical problems and the type of surgery, certain anesthetic techniques may be more suitable than others

Please be sure to follow any preoperative instructions, especially those pertaining to medication intake and abstaining from food and drinks. These instructions are for your safety and if not followed your surgery may be postponed or cancelled.
