Our Speakers

Juliana M. Mosley-Williams has 25 years of experience in education.  Juliana currently serves as the inaugural Special Assistant to the President for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at Salus University in Elkins Park, PA and previously held positions in higher education as the Chief Diversity, Inclusion & Community Relations Officer at Chestnut Hill College, a Vice President for Student Affairs at Lincoln University, Edward Waters College, Marygrove College, and Philander Smith College; the Director of Multicultural Affairs at John Carroll University; the Executive Assistant to the President at Kentucky State University; and High School Business Teacher in Houston Independent School District.Juliana also serves as a consultant, having presented nearly 100 times, to include a TEDxTalk, conference keynotes (international, national and regional), and presenter at various universities, non-profit organizations, government agencies, and corporations.  In these instances, she provided training and development workshops in DEI, leadership transition, strategic planning, and student development.   Juliana earned a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and M.A. in Curriculum and Teacher Leadership from Miami University of Ohio, and B.S. in Business Education from Ball State University.  

Affectionately called Dr. J. by her beloved students, Juliana’s commitment and service to education and the community is evident in her honors as a Philadelphia Tribune 2019 Woman of Achievement honoree, and moderator for Philadelphia Women in Leadership Symposium 2022 and 2023.  Juliana is also extremely committed to serving her local communities, currently serving as a board member of Philadelphia Education Fund; and former roles as grant reviewer for Chester County Fund for Women and Girls Grants Allocation Committee (West Chester, PA); board member for Girl Scouts of America (Gateway Council—Northern Counties of Florida); Steering Committee Chair for Save Our Sons (non-profit in Jacksonville FL); and 25+ year member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Juliana seeks to educate and train people to engage in difficult dialog through cultural humility to make the unconscious conscious.

Leigh Hume graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Bowling Green State University and received her Masters of Nursing from the University of Washington. Her clinical background includes neonatal intensive care, research and program development as it relates to pediatric asthma.  Ms. Hume has been with the ANCC since 2008 and currently serves as the Assistant Director for the Pathway to Excellence program’s appraisal process. Her work with the Pathway program allows her to fulfill her passion of addressing and enhancing nurses’ well-being.

Patrick Decker-Tonnesen, Ph.D., M.S.W. (he/him) is an Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity Advisor at Mayo Clinic. Dr. Decker-Tonnesen holds a Doctorate in Social Work from Loyola University Chicago, and his substantive area focuses on the experiences of individuals who have historically marginalized identities and serve on nonprofit governance systems. Dr. Decker-Tonnesen also holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Mount St. Mary’s University, and a Master of Social Work, as well as certificates in Nonprofit Management & Philanthropy and Measurement & Quantitative Methods, from Loyola University Chicago. Additionally, Dr. Decker-Tonnesen holds a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Certificate from the University of South Florida.

Dave Urso was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He earned a B.S. in Conflict Resolution and an M.Ed. in Educational Psychology from James Madison University. He holds a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Colorado State University. Dave’s professional career includes 17 years in the community college system. Dave lives with his wife (Carrie), twin sons (Chase and Luke), and daughter (Belle) in Harrisonburg. Dave’s loosely credited with helping country superstars Little Big Town achieve their meteoric rise (by purchasing each of their CDs), routinely bowls 300-point games (on the Wii), and owns and manages several rental properties and hotels (at least he does when he plays Monopoly).
