Bio:
Dr. Yazazew Kiros had an extensive and admirable career in Ethiopia before immigrating to the US. At McKelle University, he conducted research in infectious diseases on COVID-19, HIV, leishmania, and tuberculosis. He specialized in gastroenterology clinically and was an associate professor and head of the medical school. In Ethiopia, he worked at McKelle University to provide confidential and stigma-free healthcare access to commercial sex workers living with HIV/AIDS. Noting the lack of access to care during war in Ethiopia, he was the founder and medical director for Awash Hospital, a 70+ bed hospital that was a trauma center for war causalities. The war was so devastating that he decided to relocate his family to the US. “I was driven by a deep conviction that my children deserved a life of stability, far from the violence and fear surrounding us.”
