Shenandoah House

The Shenandoah House is a beautiful residence nestled in a tranquil, wooded area on the Augusta Health campus. It is designed for hospice patients no longer able to live at home without assistance or who have no suitable caregiver at home. It has a homelike atmosphere with four private bedrooms and bathrooms, gardens designed to stimulate the senses – touch, sight, sound and smell – greenery year-round, an inviting kitchen, family areas, a fireplace, a piano, and more. This house will offer a home away from home for an expected 85 to 100 hospice patients each year. The Hospice of the Shenandoah is proud to be able to offer to the community residents a warm, supportive environment when unable to remain in their own home for the final stage of life.

Features of the House

  • Four private bedrooms, each with its own bathroom and patio garden area. Comfortable furnishings to accommodate overnight stays by family members, personal items may be added to the rooms, and pets may visit too.
  • The kitchen, family, dining, and living rooms contribute to the overall home-like environment, and provide cozy areas for patients, families, and friends to socialize.
  • Specialized bathing facilities discreetly enable even bed bound patients to enjoy safe and comforting baths.
  • The meditation room, available for private reflection and spiritual support, may be used by patients, families, clergy, and grief specialists.
  • The year-round sunroom opens out to a covered patio and beautiful gardens with meandering pathways.

Ways You Can Help

We need the support of our community to ensure the successful operation of the Shenandoah House. You can help by donating money, providing needed supplies and services, or volunteering your time. The land and many of the construction costs were donated by Augusta Health. The Founders Campaign (link to donation page) is intended to raise the money needed to furnish and landscape the hospice house for patient comfort and safety and to help fund patient care.

Every donation, large or small, will be important to help us achieve our goals. We still have a few naming opportunities available for individuals or businesses. Thank you for your generosity to the people and families in our community who are struggling with a terminal illness.
