FAQ
About the Residency Program
1. You are a new program. When did you start?
We successfully matched our first 10 interns in the 2024 Match and our second class of 12 interns in the 2025 Match. We will accept a third class of 12 interns through NRMP during the 2026 Match.
2. Will you be having a virtual open house prior to interview season?
Yes. They are scheduled for:
- August 27, 2025 at 7 p.m. EST
- September 15, 2025 at 7 p.m. EST
3. Do we sponsor J1 and H1B visas?
Our residency program primarily sponsors J-1 visas for international medical graduates through the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).
We will consider H-1B visa sponsorship only in exceptional circumstances. These include, but are not limited to:
- The applicant is already on an H-1B visa and continuation of that status is necessary.
- The applicant has extraordinary immigration circumstances that make J-1 visa sponsorship unfeasible or inappropriate.
All H-1B visa requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and must be approved by institutional leadership. J-1 visa sponsorship remains our standard and preferred pathway for eligible international applicants.
4. Will you take applications from osteopathic medical schools as well as allopathic medical schools?
Absolutely. We welcome both D.O. and M.D. graduates as well as international medical graduates.
5. What is the call schedule?
We have no 24 hour calls during residency. Please see the “Curriculum and Schedule” tab on our website for more details about the rotations and schedule.
6. How many residents will be in the program in total, and how many positions does the program plan to offer for this application cycle?
The program will offer 12 internal medicine internship positions in the 2026 Match.
About the Application
1. How do I apply to your program?
All applications will be through ERAS and the NRMP.
2. What is the minimal USMLE score?
We have no designated minimal score. We seek to match residents who demonstrate professionalism, eagerness to learn and empathy – many qualities that cannot be measured by a test score.
3. What is the cutoff for year of graduation?
We have no designated graduation year cutoff as we recognize that pursing research, an advanced degree or additional clinical experience may enrich a candidate’s career path and aptitudes, so we will consider all applications. Depending on experiences, we may have a preference for candidates who have graduated in the past 5 years.
4. What is the minimum number of letters of recommendation required?
We require a minimum of 3 letters of recommendation.
About Interviews
1. Will interviews take place in person or virtual?
We will offer both virtual and in-person interviews during the 2026 Match recruitment season. We are expanding our options this year to include in-person interviews because we believe that an onsite interview offers applicants the opportunity to see our dynamic program, meet our wonderful people and see our beautiful facilities for themselves. We live in a lovely location and work with a phenomenal team; we want to offer applicants the option to experience the program in-person during recruitment. We encourage all local applicants to select an in-person interview. We recognize that travel is not feasible or affordable for some applicants and will also offer virtual interview options, so that we can accommodate all applicants in a fair and equitable manner.
2. How will the interview day be structured?
Virtual interviews will be half days. When selecting a virtual interview, candidates will have the choice to pick an AM interview half day or a PM interview half day.
In-person interview days will be 8:15 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. EST and are longer than the virtual days in order to allow time for hospital tours.
All candidates will interview with the program director and 2 faculty members and will meet the program coordinator and current residents.
3. When will applicants meet the Augusta Health residents?
Applicants will have an opportunity to meet our residents and ask questions on Monday evening “Meet & Greets” during the interview season. The residents will introduce themselves during the interview days and second look days.
Applicants who choose in-person interviews will have the option of meeting residents for dinner at a restaurant on the night before their in-person interview.
4. When are the interviews?
The interview days will be November 2025 through January 2026.
5. What time are the interviews?
What time are the interviews? Virtual interviews are either in the morning from 8:15 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. EST or in the afternoon from 12:45 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. EST. In-person interviews will be 8:15 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. EST
