Interventional Radiology (IR) Technologist
As an IR Technologist, you’ll play a key role in performing minimally invasive, image-guided procedures that help diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions—from vascular disease and cancer to trauma. Working side by side with interventional radiologists, you’ll ensure patients receive safe, effective, and compassionate care.
What You’ll Do:
- Operate advanced imaging equipment (fluoroscopy, ultrasound, CT) to guide catheters, wires, and devices during procedures such as angiograms, embolizations, and biopsies.
- Support interventional radiologists in delivering high-quality patient care throughout each procedure.
- Maintain accuracy, safety, and attention to detail in a fast-paced clinical setting.
Qualifications:
- AART certification in Radiologic Technology (required).
- Additional certification in Vascular Interventional (VI) or Cardiovascular Interventional (CI) Radiography (preferred/encouraged).
- Current CPR Certification
Career Path:
Most IR Technologists start in general radiography and move into IR through on-the-job training or formal IR programs. From there, you can grow into roles such as lead technologist, clinical educator, supervisor, or manager, with opportunities to specialize in fields like neurointerventional radiology or interventional oncology.
