As you lose estrogen and progesterone, the vaginal tissues become more dry and fragile, increasing pain with intercourse as well as burning, itching, and UTI symptoms.  Topical (or systemic) estrogen is the best treatment, but talk to your doctor for your situation.

Stay away from KY and Astroglide. The difference between moisturizers and lubricants is mostly how long they stay put..  The ones below have minimally irritating ingredients.  Use lots!

Water basedSilicone based
SliquidUber lube
Good Clean Love- Almost NakedPjur Silicone
Yes Vaginal Moisturizer
Desert Harvest Aloe Glide
Slippery Stuff
  • Coconut oil (available at the grocery store)
  • Julva-  DHEA -a precursor to estrogen (more of a treatment for dry tissue than an actual lube)
  • Hyaluronic acid (Good Clean Love Bio Nourish- also more of a treatment)
  • Silicone based lubes will stay slipperier longer, may break down silicone toys, and may break down the latex in condoms. Water based can be stickier, but can be used with all toys/condoms.
  • For more info on lubricants, check out and type ”lubricants” in the search bar
