What Is Proxy Access?

Proxy access allows one person (the proxy) to securely access another person’s patient portal account with the patient’s permission or, in some cases, legal authorization.

Proxy access is commonly used by:

  • Parents or legal guardians managing a child’s healthcare
  • Adult children assisting aging parents
  • Spouses helping one another manage appointments and medical information
  • Caregivers assisting patients with ongoing healthcare needs
  • Legal representatives caring for patients who are unable to manage their own healthcare

Proxy access is provided through the MyAugusta Health patient portal, giving authorized individuals a secure way to help manage healthcare while protecting patient privacy. Proxy users only have access after authorization has been granted and can only view the information permitted under your organization’s policies and applicable privacy laws.

How Does Proxy Access Work?

Each person maintains their own patient portal account.

After proxy access has been approved, the proxy logs in using their own username and password. They can then switch between their own medical record and the records of patients for whom they have authorized proxy access.

This allows caregivers to manage healthcare for family members without sharing passwords or compromising account security.

How to Enroll for Proxy Access

You can easily share your patient portal information with a trusted family member, caregiver, or other individual by creating a proxy invitation in the MyAugusta Health patient portal.

Follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your MyAugusta Health patient portal.
  2. Navigate to Account Options.
  3. Select Share My Portal.
  4. Click Create Invitation.
  5. Enter the information for the person you’d like to share your patient portal information with, including their email address.
  6. Choose the appropriate access level for the person you’re inviting.
  7. Select the specific permissions you want them to have, such as viewing medical records, appointments, or other available features.
  8. If you’d like, add a personalized message to your invitation.
  9. Send the invitation.

The person you invited will receive an email with instructions to accept the invitation. Once they accept, they can access the information you’ve chosen to share by logging into their own patient portal account.

You can review, update, or revoke proxy access at any time by returning to Account Options > Share My Portal within your patient portal.
