Q&A

  • Why did you choose your specialty area?

In the later years of medical school, I found myself not knowing what area of medicine I particularly enjoyed. I spent time in a rural clinic in Maine, and I found "my calling." I enjoy caring for patients of all ages and the opportunity to establish a positive rapport and relationship with them. I perform minor procedures, as well, so there is no such thing as a "boring day in the office" for me. I believe that the family medicine doctor is the central point for all specialty care, and I enjoy the challenge of keeping track of chronic health problems just as much as I enjoy caring for healthier patients.

  • How do you spend your spare time?

I enjoy spending time with my husband (Jim), our daughter (Adeline), and our three dogs (Jack, Sandy, and Kimber). In off time, I enjoy swimming and playing / watching ice hockey. We also enjoy racing of many types. I also enjoy the occasional motorcycle ride with my husband on a nice day. We are looking forward to being able to be outside more often now that we're closer to the mountains!

  • #1 health tip that you can offer:

Like many things in life, health is a balance, but it isn't just about diet and exercise. It's also about spiritual and mental health, whatever that means for you. When one balance is off, another is likely to be affected in a negative way. No matter what the day brings, find a few minutes to yourself to do something you enjoy (or otherwise "check-in" with yourself).
