Radiology Exams

    • Your orthopedic specialist may use a radiology exam to determine whether a bone is broken or a joint is damaged.
    • Radiology exams can also be used to diagnose arthritis and other diseases.
    • Today, digital radiology exams are used more often than traditional film radiology exams because they use less radiation and they can be viewed on a computer screen, which offers more opportunities to clearly view the picture.
    • An MRI, which stands for magnetic resonance imaging, is often used to look closely at your body’s soft tissues and bony structures. Your specialist may use an MRI to diagnose a torn muscle, tendon, ligament or cartilage.
    • MRI can also be used to view problems of the hip or pelvis and to screen for osteoarthritis and herniated disc, among other conditions.
