Measles
Measles is a serious, highly contagious airborne illness caused by a virus. Measles can cause complications that lead to hospitalization or even death. Vaccination is the best way to protect yourself, your family, and our community.
Babies typically receive their first measles-containing vaccine at 12-15 months old. There is a very high risk that infants and others who are not vaccinated will get measles if exposed to someone with measles.
Know the symptoms of measles
Symptoms usually begin 7–14 days after exposure, but can appear up to 21 days after exposure.
Initial symptoms include fever, cough, a runny nose, and red, itchy eyes. A rash appears a few days later, starting on the face at the hairline and spreading to the neck, trunk, arms, legs, and feet. There may also be bluish or white spots in the mouth on the inside of the cheeks.
If you suspect measles, CALL AHEAD before going to your doctor’s or a medical facility.
