Caring Beyond the Clinical

Often our patients need much more than clinical care. Recently, a family arriving at the hospital lab with an infant discovered just how much our lab staff cares. With Joe Garcia acting as interpreter, the staff discovered the baby—and his family—had little to take care of his basic needs. The staff responded by connecting the family with the Catholic Church in Waynesboro to provide for some of the needs, but then went even further. They called OB—who provided diapers, blankets and some clothing—and even went to the Atrium Gift Shop and purchased an outfit and socks. That morning, the family received both the clinical care they needed, and the compassionate caring they needed even more.
